  • "Fly" [flī]

    • Definition 1: stylish, sharp, successful.

      • Nuclear industry momentum is climbing again — popularity up nearly 10% this past decade.

      • With bipartisan support, the industry is airborne; the task ahead is sustaining flight.

    • Definition 2: to move swiftly through the air.

      • New nuclear buildouts must move with urgency if they’re going to hit their targets.

      • And when it comes to nuclear deterrence? Air-delivered — fission in flight.

  • "Fission" [ˈfiSHən]

    • Definition: The act of splitting into two or more parts. Chiefly of atoms undergoing fission.

      • Fission delivers BIG energy with little waste — millions of times more energy per gram than fossil fuels, footprint smaller than most landfills.

      • That’s our mindset: maximize output while minimizing waste, complexity, and drag.

  • The Pun [Fly Fishing]

    • Yes, intentional. I’m an avid fly fisherman. It keeps me grounded, reminds me of stewardship, and reflects the balance we bring to our work.

      • Deadlines keep us sharp. Tight lines keep us sane.

      • Fishing lines get tangles. Your projects shouldn’t.

Work hard. Play hard. Protect what matters. Let's build it right.

Company Values

Because nuclear projects demand more than expertise—they demand character. Our values are grounded in enduring principles—echoing Galatians 5:22–23.

RESOLVE

We commit fully—to people, to projects, to outcomes. We advocate, collaborate, and deliver like it all matters—because it does.

We face complexity with curiosity and energy. Where others brace for risk, we see opportunity. Optimism isn’t naïve—it’s fuel for momentum.

In the unknown, we stay grounded. Pressure doesn’t rattle us—it sharpens our focus.

OPTIMISM
COMPOSURE
STEADFAST

Neutrons move fast. So do we—but never at the expense of trust. Every decision is grounded and guided.

CONSIDERATE CANDOR

We are clear, constructive, and respectful. Honesty is our standard, delivered in a way that builds, not breaks.

OPERATIONAL INTEGRITY

What we say, we do. What we do, we own. Our recommendations aren't just technically right—they're right for the mission.

ENGINEERING DISCIPLINE

We don’t guess. We check, recheck, and stand by it. Reliability isn’t optional—it’s the framework.

PRACTICAL CONSTRAINT

We apply pressure with precision—knowing when to push, when to pause, and when to step aside.

DELIBERATE CONTROL

Our instincts are engineered from experience and foresight. Each choice is crafted to stand firm under scrutiny.

Owner Spotlight

Benjamin (Ben) Huffer brings well over a decade of deep experience in heavy industrial and nuclear construction. He began his career in Design Engineering with a DOE contractor at the Savannah River Site (SRS), where he helped design, build, and install several safety-related systems and critical nuclear infrastructure on large, capital line-item projects.

Ben has developed engineering designs and programs from the ground up and understands what it takes to deliver a project—on time, on budget, and with purpose. He has a proven track record of translating strong leadership, a team mindset, and technical skill into successful project execution. From front-end engineering to commissioning, he has supported nuclear projects across their full life cycle.

He has advised due-diligence, design, and planning for large (>$500MM) project initiatives. His passion lies in serving stakeholders and steering projects to outcomes that align with both mission needs and regulatory success.

Ben earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and an M.S. in Nuclear Environmental Engineering from Clemson University. His early work on DOD-funded research in neutron detection systems sparked his path into nuclear.

Ben lives in South Carolina with his wife of 11 years, Jenn, and their son, Luke. He founded FlyFission to fill a critical gap in the industry—bringing sharp, independent engineering oversight to complex nuclear programs. From surfacing hidden risks, tightening design logic, or pressure-testing assumptions, FlyFission delivers the clarity and foresight high-stakes projects demand but rarely get.
