  • "Fly" [flī]

    • Definition 1: stylish, sharp, successful.

      • Nuclear Industry popularity has climbed roughly 10% over the past decade. Let’s keep the momentum flying. #MakeNuclearGreatAgain

    • Definition 2: to move swiftly through the air.

      • Nuclear deterrents are often air-delivered—warheads as literal flying fission. (Any let's be honest, "FlyFusion" sounds like a trendy sushi spot.)

  • "Fission" [ˈfiSHən]

    • Definition. The act of splitting into two or more parts. Chiefly of atoms undergoing fission.

      • Fission delivers BIG Energy, little waste—millions of times more energy per gram than fossil fuels, with a footprint smaller than most landfills. Similarly, we value streamlined operations that maximize output while minimizing waste, complexity, and drag.

  • The Pun (Fly Fishing)

    • Yes—it was intentional. I'm an avid fly fisherman. It keeps me grounded, reminds me of the importance of stewardship, and reflects the balance we aim to bring to our work. Deadlines keep us sharp. Tight lines keep us sane.

Work hard. Play hard. Protect what matters.

Owner Spotlight

Benjamin (Ben) Huffer brings deep experience in heavy industrial and nuclear construction. He began his career in Design Engineering with a DOE contractor at the Savannah River Site (SRS), where he helped design, build, and install several safety-related systems and critical nuclear infrastructure on large, capital line-item projects.

Ben has developed engineering designs and programs from the ground up and understands what it takes to deliver a project—on time, on budget, and with purpose. He has a proven track record of translating strong leadership, a team mindset, and technical skill into successful project execution. From front-end engineering to commissioning, he has supported nuclear projects across their full life cycle.

He has advised due-diligence and planning for large (>$100MM) project initiatives. His passion lies in serving stakeholders and steering projects to outcomes that align with both mission needs and regulatory success.

Ben earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and an M.S. in Nuclear Environmental Engineering from Clemson University. His early work on DOD-funded research in neutron detection systems sparked his path into nuclear.

Ben lives in South Carolina with his wife of 11 years, Jenn, and their son, Luke. He founded FlyFission to fill a critical gap in the industry—bringing sharp, independent engineering oversight to complex nuclear programs. From surfacing hidden risks, tightening design logic, or pressure-testing assumptions, FlyFission delivers the clarity and foresight high-stakes projects demand but rarely get.
